Red carpet reporters were taken aback when Lady Gaga arrived at the Emmy Awards tonight. The avant garde, sartorially adventurous star debuted a new look—and, ironically, it's very old. Old Hollywood, that is. Gaga's one-shouldered black column is by buzzing designer Brandon Maxwell, Gaga's longtime stylist who just showed his first solo collection this past week at New York Fashion Week. Gaga's Emmy gown was straight off the runway, from September 15. Of Maxwell's debut collection, Vogue Runway noted that there were plenty of options "for those looking for just a touch of diva, and that it was "sexy without question, but a little better suited for off-stage activities" While he's known for outfitting Gaga in famously daring looks, Maxwell has said that his collection isn't about shock—rather a celebration of women. "It's important that it's humble and taken seriously," Maxwell told WWD. "I want women to want to wear the clothes, and I want people to say it was well-made and well thought out." Is this glam, subdued look a whole new look for Gaga? Or is she simply playing the role of Gaga, the actress? Time will tell and we can't wait to watch!
